Buyé Beach

If you’re looking for that perfect mix of easy access, crystal-clear water, and a laid-back local vibe, Buyé Beach (Playa Buyé) is one of those special spots that never disappoints. Just a short sail or drive from Puerto Real, this beautiful stretch of coastline in Cabo Rojo feels like the real Puerto Rico — peaceful, welcoming, and way less crowded than the big-name beaches on the east side.

Drop anchor in the protected waters just offshore and you’ll understand why we love bringing people here. The sea is usually flat calm with gentle turquoise shades that glow in the sunlight. A roped-off swimming area keeps things safe and relaxed, while the palm trees and almond trees along the shore give you plenty of natural shade for those long lazy afternoons.

What makes Buyé extra special for sailors:

- Super calm conditions most days — perfect for swimming right off the boat or launching the dinghy to shore

- Clear water that’s great for easy snorkeling along the north side (look for schools of colorful fish and the remains of old coral walls)

- Kayaking heaven — the flat water makes it fun for everyone, even little ones

- That hidden cove feel once you walk a bit further down the beach where it gets quieter and even more postcard-perfect

We often combine a morning sail to Buyé with a stop at nearby Playa Sucia or the Cabo Rojo lighthouse for a full day of exploring. After anchoring, you can dinghy in for fresh local snacks from the vendors, stretch your legs under the palms, or just float in the warm shallows while the boat swings gently behind you.

Even though weekends can bring out local families for cookouts, it still never feels overwhelming. The vibe stays chill, the water stays inviting, and the sunsets here are the kind that make you want to stay anchored until the stars come out.

At Island Home Sailing we love stopping at Buyé because it’s the perfect example of what southwest Puerto Rico is all about — authentic beauty, calm anchorages, and that peaceful feeling you came to the Caribbean for. Whether it’s part of a day sail or a longer overnight adventure, this beach always leaves everyone smiling and already planning their next trip back.

Ready to feel that soft sand between your toes and that warm Caribbean water on your skin? Let’s make Buyé part of your island story. The anchor is waiting and the turquoise is calling
