Meet the Captain
Hello! I’m Konstantin, though most folks call me Captain K.
My love for sailing started at 16 on a little 16-foot Hobie catamaran we rented in Mission Bay, San Diego. From that first ride, I was hooked; there’s nothing quite like being powered only by the wind. Years later, my career took me to Toledo, Ohio, where I bought my first real sailboat, a 23.5-footer trailer sailor to enjoy Lake Erie. Not long after I stepped up to a 33.5-foot Hunter and outfitted her for bigger adventures, eventually sailing the Great Lakes all the way out into the Atlantic as a full-time sailor.
Along the way, I met my wife, and when our baby boy arrived, we knew we needed something even more capable and comfortable. That’s how we found our current 41-foot classic ship, SV Island Home, the perfect floating home for our growing family. We spent the first couple of years of our little guy’s life living aboard. Those early days on the water are some of our most treasured memories.
Eventually, we settled in beautiful Puerto Rico, where my wife is now completing her medical residency in San Juan. Even though we live on land full-time, the ocean still calls us every chance we get.
I started Island Home Sailing because I genuinely love sharing this lifestyle with others. When you sail with me, you’re not just a client; you’re a friend, part of our little island family.
Whether it’s a relaxing day sail, an overnight adventure, or a multi-day exploration of southwest Puerto Rico’s hidden anchorages, I can’t wait to show you the quiet coves, glowing bays, and authentic Caribbean beauty that stole my heart.
Come join us; the wind is waiting, and there’s always room for one more story around the cockpit table.
